LINK INTERNSHIP

A 3-week internship experience for all AHS juniors to gain a better knowledge about themselves figure out what they enjoy and what they want to choose as a career path.

In the beginning of the whole process of getting my LINK internship. I was very confused on what we needed to do because not a lot was explained to us in the beginning. I didn't even know what I wanted to do for my LINK. I really wasn't sure. So I wanted to really come in with an open mindset about what I wanted to do and if I enjoyed it I might see that as a future career path.

I’ve definitely learned a couple skills during this whole process but there weren't many that concreted themselves into my head. Because it felt very out of tune with the way things were run and it felt very disconnected from me and my mentor and so on. But I did learn more about persevering through obstacles and that really helped me with getting the motivation to really push myself and be able to create a final product at the end of LINK.

Everything really came down to the fact that it was mostly based on motivation and, me really fighting my own battle with myself to get this project finished. Because everything was mobile and I really couldn't interact, and get myself involved with architecture as much as I wanted to be. I felt like I was doing the bare minimum sometimes during that three week period, and I didnt feel happy about it. It felt very repetitive and not unique to me and it really made me realise what I wanted to do in the future for a career and this LINK internship really helped me cross something off the list and move on to the other.

As a high school student I'm young and just starting out in life. The beginning stages of this my life begins. So being able to show them the smallest slice of what actually goes on within this certain field of work. It’ll give me a better understanding  and a narrower focus on what I want to do in the future for a career.

It really hasn't helped much if I am going to be completely blunt. It did help me realise what I didn't like in a career and now I can really move on and be able to focus on what my interests are and, what motivates me everyday to keep doing that job. The benefit here is that I have now finally gained a narrower scope on what I want to do for a career and I get to cross that career path off my list.
